Our teenage daughter stuffed four horse hair-covered saddle pads into a front-load machine. Soon after, the washer sloshed to a halt. I hit the drain/spin cycle. Nothing. The machine wouldn’t drain.

Steering Arm with old seal
washer replacement

Spindle seal leak is a relatively easy replacement. First jack up and support the truck. Open the fill plug for the gear oil and then drain from the bottom hole, reinstall the drain plug and inspect the fluid for metal. Measure the idler arm (or radius arm) attachment for the geared hub, remove and discard the cotter pin and unscrew the castle nut. Tap from the side with a mallet to knock the idler arm loose and remove. It should drop out. Unscrew the air line with a hand wrench, and unbolt the 4 bolts retaining the cover shown above. Note spacer and washer placement of the bolts and internal CTIS shield.
